The Library added 100 new volumes to Maryland, as well as volumes in New York, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico and California. Additionally, the Library purchased more than 200 volumes relating to the American Revolution due in part to the efforts of William Principe in identifying their availability.

In August, 2004 the Society received from the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York a generous donation of several boxes of books. These marvelous books include copies of books that were entered in the New York Society’s Fraunces Tavern Museum Book Award program as well as many others.

Many of these books are contemporary publications representing new research about the American Revolution and colonial period, and are a magnificent addition to our collection.

A special book plate has been placed in each volume, and a notation made in our catalog, memorializing the New York Society’s gift.

The Sons of the Revolution Library has been designated by the General Society Sons of the Revolution as an official repository for SR materials and the State societies are encouraged to deposit their current and historical publications there. Several societies did so in 2004.

The Library also broadened its military history collection including emphasis on the War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War and the Spanish American War.

The Library is grateful for the generous donation by President Emeritus Richard Breithaupt, Jr. of the marvelous 62-volume set “Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States”, comprising the papers of this Civil War veteran’s organization published 1887-1915, and several years of “The Loyal Legion Historical Journal”.

He also donated 20 volumes of “Journal of the Commandery-in-Chief”, the annual report of the Military Order, spanning the years between 1899-1931, complementing the Library’s collection thereby making it nearly complete for this period; and large runs of “Sons of Confederate Veterans” and “SAR” magazines, several years issues of the U. S. Naval Institute’s “Proceedings”, “The Hook”, published by the Tailhook Association, and “Wings of Gold”. The Library also received from Mr. Breithaupt a collection of several hundred photographs of Mexican War and Civil War officers, and other historical photographs, appearing in his book “Aztec Club of 1847, A Sesquicentennial History”, published in 1997.

Mrs. Richard Breithaupt, Sr. donated to the Library several books published by the Daughters of the War of 1812, publications of the Daughters of the Cincinnati, a large run of the “Journal of the United Daughters of the Confederacy” and 12 volumes of “The Columbiad”.

The Library acquired numerous census indexes for the various U. S. censuses, and assorted volumes pertaining to military unit lineages.
An additional $10,290 was spent on book binding and repair.
