AMERICAN HERITAGE LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Located at 600 South Central Avenue, Glendale, the American Heritage Library and Museum is supported by the generous donations of patriotic Americans who value our nation’s heritage. The Library specializes in genealogical and early American history resources with emphasis on the Colonial and Revolutionary War period. It also has a fine collection of 18th and 19th century vital records, family histories, American military history and English genealogy.

SR Library

In 2002, an ambitious plan to modernize the SR Library was developed by President Emeritus Richard Breithaupt, Jr. which was enthusiastically adopted by the Board of Directors. Accepting the lead role, he recruited a team, designed specifications for software, hardware and workflow, and carried it through to completion. In 2004 the Library experienced the most dramatic improvements in recent memory, if ever. These include: catalog modernization and collection reorganization, facilities expansion, and acquisitions.

The Society completed a catalog modernization and collection organization project and bound many years of journals and periodicals of varying titles. The book collection grew by several thousand titles through donations and purchases. Book purchases totaled $30,000 during the year. For a total cost of $34,000 shelf space was expanded by 476 lineal feet, a new work area was installed, additional display cases were added and a 5-drawer map case purchased. More computers were installed, each with high-speed Internet access, and the electrical system was expanded to meet growing needs.

Detail about the Library's catalog modernization project, expansion of facilities and acquisitions during the year can be found by reading the pages linked under "SR Library" in left column.
