CHARLES B. WITT, JR. MD ELECTED PRESIDENT

Charles B. Witt, Jr., MD, left, a prominent Los Angeles thoracic surgeon, was installed for a second term as President of the Society at the 110th Annual Membership Meeting held Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena. Dr. Witt previously served as National President of the National Society of Washington Family Descendants. Serving with him are Senior Vice President Dr. James D. “David” Boyle, MD, a prominent gastroenterologist, and Vice Presidents Merrick Browne, a retired banker, and the Hon. G. Richard Stanford, former mayor of Azuza and retired Marine Corps fighter pilot.

The Society’s officers and directors were installed by the senior President Emeritus present, Lt. Gen. John M. Wright, Jr. USA (Ret.). Gen. Wright, right, stated that he considered it an honor to be associated with the Society and issued a challenge to the officers and directors to “do their best”. Other Presidents Emeritus present at the luncheon were Richard H. Breithaupt, Jr., William W. Huss, Jr. and H. Newell Williams.

Following a traditional opening, Chaplain John Bennett, accompanied by President Witt on the piano, was joined by the sixty members and guests in singing the Star Spangled Banner. The Mediterranean Room, with two of this walls of solid glass overlooking a golf course, was a magnificent setting for the spring-like day. Upon arrival, each attendee found the 2002 Annual Report at their place setting. Following a review of the Society’s year-end financial statement, the report of the Treasurer was accepted. Other officers made reports whereupon the 2002 Annual Report was approved. Six new members received their membership certificates.

Dr. Boyle made a presentation on behalf of the Library Committee noting its many significant accomplishments during 2002. He announced the Board’s formation of the Friends of the Library, and introduced Mrs. Elizabeth Hay, its President.
