2016 George Washington Open House

American Heritage Library and Museum -- Feb 15, 2016

About one hundred people gathered at the American Heritage Library and Museum on President's Day (Feb 15, 2016)
to celebrate the 284th anniversary of the birth of George Washington.
Celebrating its 123rd Anniversary, the American Heritage Library and Museum
is a patriotic project of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of California.

The highlight of the event was the performance of colonial and patriotic music
by a string quartet led by Denise Amorim on violin.

A portion of the music was played on the George Washington Quartet,
a historic set of beautifully hand-crafted instruments (consisting of two violins, a viola and cello).
As explained by President Emeritus Paul Gray, with assistance from President Gary Clark,
it required ten years to craft the instruments.

Made in the 1930s by Michael Gozzo, an Italian born violin maker,
the wood was carefully cut, seasoned, molded and sculpted with patriotic American themes on the back of each,
with distinctive features such as the violin's scroll in a likeness of George Washington.

The performance concluded with the playing of God Bless America on the George Washington Quartet instruments.

The Society was honored to have in attendance General President Emeritus Paul F. Davis and his daughter.

Paul presented to the Library a book about the Davis family genealogy,
the donation in memory of Nancy Davis, the late wife of Mr. Davis.

President Gary K. Clark, D.Min. accepting the book from Paul Davis.

Following the presentation, President Clark spoke about the programs of the Library and Museum.
Those assembled enjoyed a festive brunch featuring colonial-themed fare
highlighted with Fish House Punch, a favorite of George Washington,
prepared from an original recipe by President Emeritus Richard Breithaupt, Jr.
