2013 George Washington Open House

American Heritage Library and Museum -- Feb 18, 2013

More than one hundred people gathered at the American Heritage Library and Museum on President's Day (Feb 18 2013) to celebrate the 281st anniversary of the birth of George Washington. Celebrating its 120th Anniversary, the Library and Museum is a patriotic project of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of California.

Those assembled were greeted by Paul W. Gray, Ed.D., President of the
Sons of the Revolution in the State of California.

The highlight of the afternoon was
an interpretatived performance
by Gay Storm Oakes
portraying Mary Todd Lincoln.

President Emeritus Richard Breithaupt, Jr., a fifth great-grandson
of Philadelphia clockmaker Thomas Stretch (1697-1765),
founding governor of the The Schuylkill Fishing Company,
also known as the State in Schuylkill,
shared with those assembled the day he experienced with the Club
as an honored guest at its "Opening Day" some years ago.

Founded in 1732, it is the oldest social club in the English-speaking world.
The Club's Fish House Punch was George Washington's favorite drink,
and Mr. Breithaupt brought a fresh batch for all to taste.

A special birthday cake was presented.

The pleasant affair was capped off with a serving of Fish House punch, a favorite drink of George Washington.
