43-Star Flag (1890)

The flag changed dramatically in 1890.  During November, 1889, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Washington were admitted into the Union.  Idaho followed on July 3, 1890.

Because Idaho was not admitted until July 3, one day before the stars were officially added to the flag, the majority of flags made for the period from July 4, 1890 through July 3, 1891 displayed 42 stars.  This was an unofficial version of the nation's flag.
