DEUX-PONTS REGIMENT

The Deux-Ponts regiment was from Zweibrucken, or Deux-Ponts, in the Bavarian Palatinate.  It was the largest of the four infantry regiments in Rochambeau's army.  Commanded by Count Christian de Forbach de Deux-Ponts, the regiment landed at Newport on June 11, 1780 and in the summer of 1781 marched and sailed to Yorktown.  During the siege, a 400 man force made up of detatchments from the Deux-Ponts, Bourbonnais, Gatinai and Agenois regiments, led by Lt.-Col. Viscount Guilliame de Deux-Ponts, assaulted and captured one of two key British redoubts.
